Iran to re-enable issuing tourist visas

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct. 20

Trend:

After suspending the service for issuing tourist visas due to COVID-19, Iran has announced that the service will be re-launched from October 23, Trend reports via IRNA.

The remark was made by Iranian Minister of Heritage, Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts, Seyed Ezatullah Zarghami.

Iran banned the entry of foreign nationals since March of last year, a few weeks after the country detected its first cases of COVID-19. The decision to re-launch visa services was recently taken during a meeting of Iran's National Committee on Combating Coronavirus.

In February, Iran's Ministry of Heritage, Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts said Iran's activity in the tourism sector has dropped by 94 percent, while Iran welcomed over 8.8 million tourists the year before COVID-19.
