Iran begins new round of power plant overhaul operations

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct. 21

As announced by an official with Iran Grid Management Company , so far, more than 15,000 megawatts (MW) the country's power plants has been stopped electricity generation in order to begin overhaul operation, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The cumulative capacity of power plants in operation reached approximately 43,700 MW.

Iran’s current power generation capacity stands at about 85 GW of which the share of hydroelectric power stands at nearly 16 percent.

Iran`s electricity consumption of large industries is estimated 5,400 MW, which shows an increasing by about 3.5% compared to the same period last year.

According to IRNA, the scheduled repairs of the power plant is one of the most important steps in meeting the electricity needs of the country.

The scheduled power plant repair program started from the beginning of October to provide stable electricity during next year`s summer's peak consumption period..
