(zaman) - Turkey has the largest army in Europe and the eighth-largest in the world, according to a list published in The Independent.

An article published in the Independent said that China has the world's largest army with 2.2 million troops and it is followed by the United States with 1.4 million troops.

India has 1.3 million troops and ranks third, according to Independent, which based its news on Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies and the U.S. Department of Defense, reports Trend.

Turkey has 514,850 troops and sits at the eighth place in the top 10 list, in which no other European countries were included.

Also in the news, U.S. President George Bush was also quoted as saying at an end-of-year press conference that he wants "to increase the size of the U.S. military - currently the second largest in the world - to allow America to take on a "long struggle against radicals and extremists."
