Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept.8

By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iran wants to replace Europe in Russian food market, Iran's Trade Promotion Organization deputy director Mir-Aboutaleb Badri said.

Badri added that as Russia is under the EU sanctions, Iranian merchants are seeking to boost exports of fruits and vegetables, fish and poultry to Russia, Iran's Fars news agency reported on September 5.

Merchants from Mazandaran, Gilan, East Azerbaijan, and Ardebil provinces of Iran announced readiness to attend the World Food Expo in Russia to find new markets in Russia for Iranian fruits and dairy products, he noted.

Gholamhossein Shafei, the chairman of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, said on September 2 that Iran has established a special working group aimed to fins new markets in Russia and boost food exports to the country.

A specialized delegation will travel to Russia in the near future to study the Russian market needs.

We are planning to use maritime transportation capacities in Amirabad, Noshahr, Anzali, and Astrakhan ports, as well as road transportation capacities in Sarakhs Special Economic Zone in this regard, he explained.

The Russian market welcomes Iranian citrus fruits, kiwi, pomegranate, and grape, as no Central Asian country raises citrus fruits, he said.

Russia wants to import Iranian food products after Moscow imposed a ban on the import of most agricultural products from the Western countries.
