Iran’s crude steel output surpasses 15 million tons

Over 15.421 million metric tons of crude steel were produced in Iran during the first 11 months of the last Iranian fiscal year ((March 21, 2014-Feb. 20), eight percent more compared to the same period of preceding year.

The country's crude steel production stood at 1.413 million metric tons in eleventh Iranian calendar month of Bahman (Jan. 20- Feb. 20), Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said March 29.

The country's crude steel output stood at 1.263 milion metric tons in the same month of preceding year.

A major raw steel producer of Iran, Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 4.969 million metric tons of crude steel during the period, followed by the Khuzestan Steel Company with about 3.168 million metric tons, the Isfahan Foundry with 2.528 million metric tons and Hormozgan Steel Company with 1.1 million metric tons.

Iranian companies also produced 15.685 million metric tons of steel products during the 11-month period. The figure indicates a four percent growth compared to the same months of last year.

Iran produced 16.331 million metric tons of crude steel in 2014. the country's crude steel production reached 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.

The world's total crude steel output in 2014 was around 1.636 billion metric tons, which is 1.1 percent more than 2013.
