Iranian government has provided tea farmers with more than 128 billion tomans ($ about 38.7 million) in subsidy.
The head of tea organization of Iran, Mohammadvali Rouzbehan, has said that the subsidy was granted last fiscal year (starting March 20) in a move aimed at protecting tea prices in the country, the state-run news channel IRINN.
The two northern provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran produce 24,000 tons of tea per year. This is while Iran imports about 110,000 tons of tea per year.
The official earlier said that Iran’s annual tea consumption stands at 110,000 tons.
