Iran boosts handling of crude oil, petroleum products at its ports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 4. Loading and unloading of crude oil and petroleum products in Iranian ports increased by 9.4 percent in the 11th month of the current Iranian year (from January 21 through February 19, 2024) compared to the same month last year, the statistics of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization says, Trend reports

According to the statistics, about 4.2 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports in the 11th month. A total of 2.04 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were shipped and about 2.12 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were unloaded. The loaded products increased by 13.3% compared to the same month last year, while the unloaded products increased by 5.8%.

Statistics indicate that a total of 13.1 million tons of products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the 11th month. Around 6.91 million tons of products were loaded and 6.19 million tons were unloaded. The volume of loaded and unloaded products in Iranian ports increased by 28.4% compared to the same month last year.

Statistics show that 2.36 million tons of essential products were loaded and unloaded in the mentioned month. Out of it, about 170,000 tons were loaded and about 2.19 million tons were unloaded.

Statistics add that in the 11th month, 907,000 tons of steel products were loaded and unloaded. Out of it, about 796,000 tons were loaded and about 112,000 tons were unloaded.

Based on statistics about 2.64 million tons of construction materials and mining products were loaded and unloaded in the 11th month. Of them, 2.52 million tons were loaded and about 113,000 tons were unloaded.

According to the information, 45,500 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports in the 11th month. Of these, 9,460 tons were shipped and 36,000 tons of products were unloaded.

Based on statistics, 565,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded in the 11th month. Of which 368,000 tons were loaded and about 197,000 tons were unloaded.

Statistics add that about 129,000 tons of leather, garments, fibers, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded in the 11th month. Of these, 3,000 tons were loaded and 126,000 tons of products were unloaded.

Statistics indicate that 39,700 tons of small and other miscellaneous products were loaded and unloaded during the said month. Of these, 16,600 tons refer to loaded products while 23,100 tons were unloaded.

"More than 2.24 million tons of containerized products were loaded and unloaded in the 11th month. Of them, 977,000 tons were loaded and about 1,270 tons were unloaded," the statistics say.

According to data of statistics, about 6.04 million tons of products were exported and 3.69 million tons of products were imported through Iranian ports in the 11th month.

Statistics say that in the mentioned month, 596,000 tons of products were loaded in Iranian ports for transit purposes, and about 465,000 tons of products were unloaded.

The statistics add that 168,000 tons of products were loaded for sabotage and 1.7 million tons of products were unloaded. Likewise, for transshipment, 95,300 thousand tons of products were loaded and 94,400 tons of products were unloaded.

Statistics also indicate that 9,430 tons of products were loaded and 236,000 tons of products were unloaded for other purposes.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
