Larijani: Saudis contribute to strengthening of terrorism

Saudi military operations against oppressed Yemeni citizens both threaten regional peace and stability and contribute to the strengthening of terrorist and extremist groups, said Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

Larijani made the comment in a meeting with the Venezuelan Ambassador to Tehran Amenhotep Zambrano Contras.

He expressed deep concern about the crimes against humanity and war crimes perpetrated by the Saudi leaders in Yemen.

He said that Riyadh air strikes on civilian targets are in full harmony with Washington, whose interference in other countries, including the recent US Congress plan for partition of Iraq angered the Iraqi nation and government.

He said that such malicious moves should face the resistance of the various nations, which will force the interventionist governments to be dissuaded from pursuing their illegitimate goals.

Larijani also considered Iran-Venezuela relations close and intimate in various fields, which can be further fortified with the visits by the two countries' political and parliamentary officials.

Ambassador Zambrano Contras, for his part, appreciated the humanitarian and spiritual support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the Venezuelan government and nation.

He said that expansion of comprehensive ties with Iran has always been reiterated by senior Venezuelan officials, including the late leader Hugo Chavez.

The Venezuelan diplomat said he was agreed with Mr. Larijani on the point that strengthening the parliamentary relations will lead to deepening of comprehensive bilateral ties.

He asked for increased meetings and consultations on bilateral regional and international affairs.
