Cancer and mortality from this disease increased in Georgia. Some 8000 of cancer patients died this year in Georgia, local media reports quoting an official data.
The average annual mortality rate from cancer was 7000 people in recent years, and thus the doctors say about increase in mortality from this disease.
Experts also pointed out that the cases of disease increased among the younger population. They think it is a consequence of environmental degradation and lack of continuous medical screening. In Georgia, cancer is found mainly in the third and fourth stages, when the fight against this disease is very difficult or even impossible.
Despite the efforts of the First Lady of Georgia Sandra Roelofs, with the assistance of whom the program which involved the prevention of breast and prostate cancer is launched, many people ignore the opportunity to be tested for cancer for free.
In Georgia, mortality from cancer ranks second after cardiovascular disease.
