British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday paid tribute to the "bravery" of Libyans who had liberated their country and said it was important to remember the many victims of the Moamer Gaddafi regime dpa reported
Acting on the news that the former Libyan leader had been killed, Cameron said he was "proud" of the role Britain played in bringing about the end of the regime.
"We should also remember the many, many Libyans who died at the hands of this brutal dictator and his regime," he said.
People in Libya now had an even greater chance of building a strong and democratic future. "We will help them, we will work with them."
Libya's ambassador to Britain, Mahmud Nacua, said outside the Libyan embassy in London that the "Gaddafi era has come to an end forever."
Libyans had "paid a high price" for the chance to build a free, democratic and just state.
"We appreciate the help of the international community to get rid of Gaddafi and his crimes," added Nacua.
