( AP ) - Hurricane Ivo slowed its forward motion Thursday morning off Mexico's Pacific coast, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
The storm, which was upgraded late Wednesday to a Category 1 hurricane, had sustained winds of about 75 mph, with gusts of 90 mph on Thursday morning.
At 5 a.m. EDT, it was centered roughly 570 miles south of the Baja California peninsula. It was forecast to head north-northwest, then take a clockwise turn toward the Baja while weakening, the hurricane center said.
"There is a chance for Ivo to strengthen some during the next 24 to 36 hours," the hurricane center said in a statement. "Thereafter ... a gradual weakening is forecast."
