( dpa ) - Russian authorities on Saturday denied unconfirmed media reports of an unsuccessful attempt on the lives of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his successor Dmitri Medvedev during the recent presidential elections.
"That absolutely does not conform to reality," the Interfax news agency quoted an unnamed security official as saying.
The tabloid news paper Twoi Den on Saturday reported that security forces had arrested a 24-year-old man who planned to shoot Putin and Medvedev during an election celebration in Moscow's Red Square.
According to the unnamed official, a 24-year-old was arrested near the Kremlin, but only for a purely criminal matter.
