Kaka becomes a father to son, Luca, born in Sao Paulo

( dpa ) - Brazilian football superstar Kaka became a father early Tuesday, medical sources confirmed.

His son, Luca, was born around 1 am (0400 GMT) in Sao Paulo. The boy was 51 centimetres long and weighed 3.6 kilogrammes, the prestigious Albert Einstein hospital said.

The talented Milan striker and his wife, Caroline Celico, arrived at the hospital late Monday. Mother and child were in good condition, the hospital said.

Kaka, 26, Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year 2007, underwent an arthroscopy in his left knee in May, causing him to miss two recent friendlies with Brazil. He is also set to miss the national team's upcoming qualifying games ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, against Paraguay on Sunday and against archrival Argentina next week.
