(dpa) - Poland agreed Thursday to host part of a US anti-missile shield in return for military aid, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.

"We have crossed the Rubicon," Tusk told the TVN news channel.

He said the United States had accepted key Polish demands, including permanent basing of Patriot air defence missiles in Poland and a pledge of cooperation in case of military threats against Poland. The agreement capped more than a year of tough bargaining over a project that has infuriated Russia, although Tusk said US-Polish talks on "technical issues" would continue.
