Baghdad blasts kill 16
Motorcycles rigged with bombs exploded in Baghdad on Friday, with 15 people killed at a marketplace bombing and another slain hours later across town, an Interior Ministry official told CNN.
These are the latest of several bombings over the past three days in and around Baghdad. They have killed nearly 100 people as a deadline approaches for the United States to withdraw combat troops from Iraqi cities.
The market bombing occurred in central Baghdad, when a motorcycle filled with explosives detonated about 9 a.m., killing 15 and wounding 46 others. The strike took place in a commercial area where men buy and sell motorcycles, an Interior Ministry official said.
In a predominantly Shiite neighborhood in southwestern Baghdad, parked motorcycle rigged with explosives killed one civilian and wounded three others, the official said.
