Diego Forlan's scruffy early goal saw Atletico Madrid secure a narrow advantage over Liverpool in their Europa League semi-final first leg tie, BBC reported.
Forlan struck inside nine minutes, completely missing his header but then bundling the ball past Pepe Reina and Jamie Carragher on the goal-line.
The former Manchester United striker might have added a second, but rushed his effort and poked straight at Reina.
Liverpool rarely threatened and were grateful to Reina for a fine stop to keep out Simao Sabrosa's sweet half-volley and another block from Tomas Ujfalusi.
Atletico Madrid 1 - 0 Liverpool
