At least three civilians were killed by insurgents early Monday when insurgents struck foreign aid agency offices in southern Afghanistan, officials said.

"Based on initial reports, three local civilians have been killed and two others including a Nepali national injured in a truck-borne bomb attack," the media office of the governor of Kandahar province said in a statement, DPA reported.

One insurgent detonated his explosive-laden vehicle in front of the offices of the US-based agency International Relief and Development and the United Nations office, in the provincial capital, also called Kandahar.

At least two more insurgents were still fighting Afghan security forces, officials said.

"All our Afghan and non-Afghan staff are accounted for," said Dan McNorton, spokesman for the United Nations, adding the incident was ongoing.
