The Taliban on Monday said one of their insurgents poisoned food and drink at an international military base in eastern Afghanistan, DPA reported.

The NATO-led force said it was investigating "suspected food tampering" in a military base in Torkham, the eastern border town with Pakistan.

"There are reports that there were traces of bleach found on food and drink," Sergeant Nicholas Conner said. "They closed the dining facility for precaution."

He dismissed claims by the Taliban that five US soldiers had been killed in the incident.

"We are trying to track down if anyone got sick because of that," he said.
