Turkey presents letter of intent to Thailand for ASEAN

Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan presented Monday Thailand's Foreign Minister and term president of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Sompong Amornwiwat a letter of intent to develop relations between Turkey and the ASEAN, reported World Bulletin.

In his letter of intent, Babacan stressed that Turkey wishes to develop economic and political relations with the ASEAN within the framework of an agreement of friendship and cooperation, Anatolia news agency reported.

Ali Babacan continued to hold talks at the United Nations on Monday.

Aside from Amornwiwat, Babacan also met with the Foreign Minister of Mozambique Oldemiro Baloi and Moldovan Foreign Minister Andrei Stratan on Monday.

Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said Turkey expressed its views to sign free trade agreement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries, indicating that serious initiatives may be launched within the scope of Asia-Pacific strategies.
