President of Russia Vladimir Putin congratulated his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the people of Turkey with stabilization of situation in the country, RIA Novosti news agency reports.

Concluding his speech at the World Energy Congress, Putin wished its participants successful and productive work, and thanked the organizers for holding the event.

“We understand that, these are, probably, not the best days for Turkey to hold such a major event since, as we all know, quite recently the country lived through a military coup attempt. We carefully and anxiously observed everything that happened in Turkey. And I want to congratulate the people of Turkey, President Erdogan with success in bringing the situation under control. We are very pleased that Turkey is recovering and we wish you success,” said Putin.

On July 15 evening, Turkish authorities said a military coup attempt took place in the country. Meanwhile, a group of servicemen announced about transition of power to them.

However, the rebelling servicemen started to surrender July 16 and Turkish authorities said the coup attempt failed.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said the death toll as a result of the military coup attempt stood at 246 people, excluding the coup plotters, and over 2,000 people were wounded.
