Georgia plans to sign an agreement with Azerbaijan for the simplification of customs procedures, head of the Georgian International Relations Department at the Customs Service Samson Uridia told Trend in Baku on Thursday.
"The essence of the agreement lies in the fact that we want to identify identical customs procedures that are applied when departing from one country and entering another and contribute to reduction of their numbers. For example, when departing customs initially does the declaration of goods and later controls and while entering Azerbaijan the same processes are conducted. Therefore one can cancel any process in this chain. For example, the parties may agree that during deportation a declaration can be made and at entry only a control should be conducted or vice versa," Uridia said. He said it will be a great facilitation for entrepreneurs.
"Within the agreement we can send the declared data in electronic form to the Customs Committee of Azerbaijan. These data get the same legal status as in Georgia and the control takes place in Azerbaijan," Uridia said. It is a real possibility he added.
"We have already started a pilot project with Turkey, so it has moved from theory to practice which will become compulsory for Turkey and Georgia in the near future," Uridia said.
He said the Georgian side had submitted a draft agreement to Azerbaijan.
