Azerbaijan and India should eliminate double taxation, Indian State for Commerce and Industry Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said at the second meeting of the Azerbaijani-Indian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation in Baku on Monday.

"There is great potential for expanding the cooperation between the two countries," he said. "It is necessary to sign several agreements to use it, particularly in the elimination of double taxation, promotion of mutual investments and so on."

He said that Azerbaijan can benefit from India's experience in the areas of information technologies, education, engineering, motor-car construction, pharmaceutical and others, and share the achievements in the oil and gas industry.

"Both countries have ambitious programs to develop alternative energy and the possible cooperation in this field," he said.

Co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission from the Azerbaijani side, Azerbaijani Environment and Natural Resources Minister Huseyn Bagirov said the trade turnover between the countries exceeded $411 million in 2011, or 22 percent more compared to 2010. The trade turnover between the countries amounted to $157 million in January and
February of 2012, or 68 percent more compared to the same period of last year.

"Historically, the close ties between the two countries have great potential for further expansion," Bahirov said.
