The main constraint to trade and investment ties between Kazakhstan and India is the lack of optimal land transport routes between the two countries.

That is the conclusion reached by the participants of the round table on the development of trade and economic relations between India and the CIS countries, the Kazakh foreign Ministry reported.

The event was held in India in the financial center in Cochin of Kerala state with the support of The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the ministries of Trade and Industry and Foreign Affairs.

The meeting participants noted the importance of the railway line forming part of the "North-South" international transport corridor leading from Kazakhstan to the ports of Iran in the Persian Gulf.

"The commissioning of the railway system will significantly reduce the cost and time of transporting goods," the ministry said.

Particular interest of Indian businessmen have caused the recent changes in the legislation of Kazakhstan aimed at improving the investment climate, stimulating activity of investors in priority sectors of the economy.

Indian businessmen are invited to implement projects within EXPO-2017 exhibition in Astana.
