Iran continues to tackle its drug problem, establishing another labor camp for drug addicts and drug dealers, ISNA reported.

"The anti-drug labor camps treat both the drug addicts and drug dealers," Official representative of Iran's anti-drug organization Ali Aliakbarian said. "The drug dealers will do hard work in the camp, while the drug addicts will be medically treated."

Aliakbarian did not specify what kind of hard work the drug dealers will be doing. Currently, about 65-70 percent of people detained in Iranian prisons are either drug addicts or drug dealers.

Last month Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Labour and Social Protection Abdullah Emadi revealed that there are some 2 million of drug addicts in Iran, adding that 8 million of people in Iran suffer from drug related issues.

According to Iranian media outlets, there are already two such anti-drug labor camps in Iran, and more are planned to be opened for a total of 5-7 in the whole country.

In June 2012 Iranian police seized a cargo full of 1,5 tons of drugs in the coastal waters of the port city of Jask in Eastern Hormozgan province of Iran.

Eastern Iran borders Afghanistan, which is the world's number one opium and drug producer. Iran's geographical position has made the country a favorite transit corridor for drug traffickers who intend to smuggle their cargoes from Afghanistan to drug dealers in Europe.
