According to the decree by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated Aug. 21 2004, the academic year in Azerbaijan from this year begins on Sept. 15.
From 2004/2005 academic year, a five-day education week was introduced in I-IV forms of the secondary schools of Azerbaijan.
In new 2009-2010 academic year, 125,000 children will go to secondary schools of Azerbaijan.
A total of 4,256,000 copies of textbooks and aids for teachers in 87 designations have been issued for II and V-XI forms of the secondary schools of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani and Russian sectors) in the 2009-2010 academic year.
This includes 1,112,500 copies of textbooks and aids for teachers, created on the basis of the national curriculum, in 40 designations for II forms and 3,144,100 copies of textbooks in 47 designations for V-XI forms.
From the new academic year, the secondary schools of Azerbaijan will continue to apply a single school uniform according to the order by the Minister of Education of Azerbaijan, Misir Mardanov.
Today 4,525 secondary schools function in Azerbaijan, where 170,000 teachers work.
