Turkish Air Force prevents violation of country’s airspace by Syrian aircraft

Fighter jets of the Turkish Air Force prevented the attempt of Syrian military aircraft to violate the country's airspace, General Staff of Turkey said in its statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, the Turkish Air Force fighter jets took off from a military base in the province of Hatay after receiving information that the Syrian Air Force plane headed to the air borders of Turkey.

Earlier, on September 16 a Syrian helicopter that violated Turkish airspace, was crashed by Turkish fighter jets. Syrian helicopter Mi-17 that violated the border, was hit by a missile from an aircraft, which took off from a military base in Malatya.

The clashes between the government forces and armed opposition have been continuing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is more than 110,000 people.
