Azerbaijan, Ganja /corr. V.Mammadov / A policeman beat a woman in the city of Ganja. The Chief Investigator of the city's Prosecutor's Office, Arzuman Badalov, said that the police sergeant, Masimov Baris, inflicted physical injuries to the woman who was selling bread near the central market. An investigation is underway. According to Badalov, the sergeant stated that he was trying to defend himself from the seller's relatives. According to a medical examination, signs of physical violence were discovered on the woman's body. Following results of the Interior Ministry investigation, a decision will be made ifthe sergeant overstepped the boundaries of his authority.
Ganja is located 365km west of Baku.
