Georgia, Tbilisi, 21 August / Trend corr. N.Kirtzkhalia / Russia should not have an opportunity to legalize what it got as a result of armed occupation of Georgia, David Bakradze, the speaker of the Georgian Parliament stated at a joint briefing with David Miliband, the British Foreign Minister.
According to Bakradze, at present there are two tasks, including short-term and long-term. "The short-term objective includes immediate withdrawal of the Russian belligerent troops' from the country and this is today's task," Bakradze stated.
"The long-term task is that Russia could not legalize what it got as a result of armed occupation of Georgia and it concerns negotiation process on conflict settlement. However, it is a long-term prospect and the international forces and our partner-countries, including the United Kingdom, should assist us in this task," he stated.
The British Foreign Minister agreed with the Georgian speaker, stressing that currently it is necessary to ensure withdrawal of the Russian troops within subsequent two or three days. "The United Kingdom supports territorial integrity of Georgia and will make every effort to make this principle stable in future," he stated.
Miliband said that bilateral cooperation and plans for future were discussed during the meeting.
On 20 August the British Foreign Minister visited refugee camp. He also intends to meet with Lado Gurgenidze, the Premier and citizen of Georgia and the United Kingdom.
