The holding of parliamentary elections and the choice of a new government by Kyrgyz citizens can be important actions towards resolving the situation in the country, Central Asia researcher at Human Rights Watch Andrea Berg said.
"So it is really important the government as soon as have held the parliamentary elections and have a new government that is actually determined by people. It is very important step to calm down the situation in the country," Berg told Trend over phone from Kyrgyz town of Osh.
The violence broke out last night, which caused riots in the Osh. Rioters burned cars and looted shops. The authority imposed a state of emergency in the towns of Osh, Uzgen and Kara- Suu, Aravan and Uzgen regions of the country. The troops were entered in Osh. The interim government head Rosa Otunbayeva assured compatriots that the authority has used all resources to stabilize the situation.
The death toll in clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan has reached 12 people, the Ministry of Health spokesman Elena Bayalinova told RIA Novosti.
The situation remains tense. There is a feeling that this will continue in future. It is very important now to reinstall law and order in Kyrgyzstan, she said.
"The interim government must make sure to prevent further violence and make sure to the escalation of the situation," she said.
Berg also noted the importance of cooperation between the country and international organizations in this issue.
She said that Kyrgyzstan is very closely cooperates with international organizations like UN, OSCE and other organizations. It conducts consultations with them on a regular basis. It must continue operating in this direction.
The Kyrgyz temporary government led by Rosa Otunbayeva came to power in the country after the overthrow of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev in April this year.
