Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / Representatives of the European Parliament met with the arrested Azerbaijani journalist, Rafik Tagi, at Reformatory 16, to become familiar with his living conditions.
Mehman Sadygov, the Head of Public Relations Department of the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan, informed Trend that the delegation took an interest in the criminal case and trial of Tagi.
The Narimi District Court sentenced Editor-in-Chief of Senet newspaper, Samir Sadagatoglu to 4 years imprisonment and the journalist, Rafik Tagi to 3 years.
Rafig Tagi and Samir Sadagatoglu were arrested in November 2006 in accordance with Article 283.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (stirring racial, ethnic and religious disharmony). They are accused of insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammed in the newspaper article entitled ' Europe and We'.
