Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / The salaries of lawyers engaged per hour, appointed by the government were proposed to increase in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Bar Association reported to the Trend agency on 28 December. The lawyers who are appointed by Government are paid 90 kopecks per hour, in Azerbaijan.

According to the Bar Association, the proposal to increase the sum to AZN 1 was submitted, however yet no official statement on the issue has been made.

Rashid Hajili, a member of the Bar Association expressed the dissatisfaction due to the low salaries of the lawyers as compared to the European counties. According to Hajili, the allocation of 90 kopecks per hour demonstrates the attitude of the state to the right of people for protection. Hajili stated that the salaries of the lawyers, who work on the wage, are also low.

"Few civilians can only hire the lawyer, which limit the possibility to get quality legal aid. Such a situation violates the rights of people and the legislation," he said.

Hajili believes that there are a lot of problems in Azerbaijan in the profession of barrister, in the country. These problems must be settled in order to provide the legal rights to the population. The key problems are the few numbers of lawyers and their low professional skill.

The Bar Association reported that the Government takes all measures in order to settle the problems existing in this sphere. So, 228 people were taken as the member of the Bar association, as a result of competition.

A range of trainings and the workshops are being held, in order to increase the professional skills of the lawyers in the country.
