Thai Olympic hope Pensri Laosirikul suffered a double blow when she failed to win a medal in Beijing and a fire killed her two pet dogs in Thailand, news reports said Sunday.
Pensri finish fifth in her weightlifting event on Saturday, missing out on a medal.
While she was competing a fire broke out in her dormitory at a training camp in Chiang Mai, 650 kilometres north of Bangkok, destroying her belongings and killing her two pet dogs.
Fellow weightlifters told police they watching Pensri on TV when they smelt smoke, but it was too late to save her possessions and pets, the dpa reported.
Police suspect the fire was caused by a short circuit.
