Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 28 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /

Police have started raids to identify the illegal transportation of earth and sand in Baku's suburbs.

The Interior Ministry has received many complaints in connection with the illegal transportation of earth and sand on trucks from areas adjacent to Baku, Baku State Traffic Police Department spokesman Vagif Asadov told Trend.

The department has created special groups to prevent such incidents and, Asadov said, they have carried out raids since Jan. 25.

The raids conducted jointly with the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry have brought to administrative responsibility persons involved in the illegal transportation of earth and sand.

Asadov said seven Kamaz vehicles illegally transporting sand were detained during the raids near the villages of Sabunchi, Buzovna, Mashtaga, Nardaran and Novkhani.

The drivers were punished and their cars were confiscated.

After compiling the relevant documentation, the materials were sent to the police in Baku.

Asadov said the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry is also holding an investigation.

The department urged the drivers to no longer engage in such activities.
