BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16. The total foreign direct investment (FDI) in Azerbaijan increased by 22.2 percent from January through June 2022 compared to the same period the previous year - from $2.6 billion up to $3.2, Trend reports via Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to CBA, the share of the oil and gas sector in FDI amounted to 65.9 percent in the first half of 2022.

The total amount of FDI attracted to the non-oil sector is $1.97 billion (an increase of 2.4 times over the year), Central Bank of Azerbaijan stated.

According to the CBA, the number of countries in terms of FDI in the economy of Azerbaijan includes: Great Britain - $843 million (a decrease of 4.5 percent), Turkey - $480.7 million (an increase of 29.6 percent), Russia - $280.1 million (an increase of 10 times), the US - $189.26 million (decrease of 39.7 percent), Iran - $170.5 million, Switzerland - $138.2 million, Japan - $134.2 million, Norway - $75.2 million and the UAE - $46.8 million .

The current account surplus increased by $8.45 billion in the first half of 2022 compared from January through June of 2022, or 5.5 times - from $1.8 billion to $10.3 billion (27.6 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP).
