BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 22. The total number of hired workers in Azerbaijan grew as of February 1, 2023, Trend reports via the State Statistics Committee.

According to the committee, this figure amounted to 1.7 million, up by 33,000 people (1.97 percent) on annual basis.

Of the total number of employees in the country, 901,100 accounted for the public sector of the economy and 811,000 - the private sector.

As many as 19.5 percent of the total number of employed persons work in the field of education, 18.8 percent in trade and vehicle repair, 8.3 percent in healthcare and social services, 7.3 percent in the processing industry, and 6.8 percent in construction, 1.9 percent - in the mining industry, as well as in the field of water supply, waste treatment and processing, 1.6 percent - in the production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam.

Besides, according to the committee, 6.5 percent of the total number of employed persons fell on public administration, defense and social security, five percent - in the provision of administrative and support services, 4.2 percent on transport and warehousing, 3.6 percent on agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 3.5 percent on scientific and technical activities, two percent - on financial and insurance activities, 3.1 percent in the field of recreation, entertainment and art, 2.1 percent tourist accommodation and catering, 1.8 percent information and communication, and one percent in real estate business.

According to preliminary data, the average monthly nominal wage of hired employees in January 2023 increased by 11.8 percent compared to the same month in 2022 and amounted to 856.2 manat ($503.6).
