BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 30. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Azerbaijan totaled $6.7 billion in 2022, Trend reports via the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the bank, the FDI increased by 30.9 percent compared to the same the previous year ($4.79 billion).

The share of the oil and gas sector in FDI amounted to 71 percent.

The total amount of FDI attracted to the non-oil sector is estimated at $1.8 billion (an increase of 2.3 times over the year), CBA said.

According to the CBA, the top five countries in terms of FDI in the economy of Azerbaijan last year were the UK - $1.75 billion (up by 10.9 percent), Türkiye - $1.18 billion (up by 60.3 percent), Cyprus - $825.7 million (2.6 times more), Russia - $517.96 million (10.5 times more), and Iran - $359.8 million (up by 34 percent).

The total balance of payments of Azerbaijan in 2022 made up $9.37 billion, which is 3.1 times higher than in the previous year.

Meanwhile, the current account surplus increased by 2.83 times compared to 2021 - from $8.3 billion to $23.5 billion (29.8 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP).

Over the past 10 years, $62.3 billion were invested in the country's economy.
