ADB approves technical assistance to Azerbaijan to better environment

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 26. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved the provision of technical assistance in the amount of $1 million to improve the environmental protection indicators of developing countries, the ADB told Trend.

This allocation will help promote the effective development of infrastructure in Central and Western Asia, including in Azerbaijan.

It is planned to develop a strategy and a plan for sustainable capacity-building for environmental protection for specific sectors and projects within the framework of technical assistance.

The project plans to involve international and national consultants to provide technical expertise, as well as to achieve a high degree of project readiness to strengthen the implementation of guarantees. It is planned to attract international consultants by the end of 2023.

Training will be conducted on the implementation and monitoring of environmental safety measures in projects and on the preparation of environmental monitoring reports during the third quarters of 2023, 2024, and 2025. From the first quarter until the end of 2025, a safety training program and an on-the-job training program will be implemented.

In addition, assessments on occupational health and safety, pollution prevention, and working conditions will be carried out until October 2024.

It is planned to prepare instructions for specific countries on occupational health and safety, pollution prevention, and working conditions from October 2025 to July 2026.

The funds will be provided from the ADB technical assistance special fund. This project is designed for three years, and the possibility of increasing the specified amount is not excluded.
