BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan grew by 3.2 percent from January through August 2023 year-on-year and reached 35.7 billion manat ($20.9 billion). The turnover of food, beverages and tobacco products increased by 2.1 percent (to 20.2 billion manat, which is $11.8 billion), while that of non-food products increased by 4.5 percent (to 15.5 billion manat, which is $9.1 billion), Trend reports.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the population spent 52.1 percent of funds on food products, 4.4 percent on beverages and tobacco products, 12.7 percent on textiles, clothing and footwear, 5.4 percent on motor fuel, 4.8 percent on electrical goods and furniture, 2.3 percent on pharmaceutical goods and medicines, 1.1 percent on computers and 17.2 percent on other non-food products from January through August 2023.
In the reporting period, the value of goods sold by economic entities of the non-state sector increased by 3.2 percent year-on-year and accounted for 99.7 percent of the total retail trade turnover.
Retail trade turnover in real terms increased by two percent for enterprises, by 3.1 percent for markets and fairs, and by 3.8 percent for individual entrepreneurs from January through August 2023 year-on-year.
Average monthly turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan per capita amounted to 440 manat ($258), including turnover of food, beverages and tobacco products - 248 manat ($145), non-food products - 191 manat ($112).
Earlier in 2022, the turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan increased by 3.1 percent year-on-year and reached 52.1 billion manat ($30.6 billion). The turnover of food, beverages and tobacco products increased by 2.3 percent (to 29.4 billion manat, which is $17.2 billion), non-food goods - by 4 percent (to 22.8 billion manat, which is $13.4 billion).
