BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 19. Azerbaijan's food imports increased by 4.92 percent ($17.7 million) in value terms to $378.1 million from January through February 2024, Trend reports.
According to data from Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee, the
country imported 8,180 tons of meat (11.71 percent growth) worth
$17.4 million (45.44 percent growth), 1,993 tons of milk (5.46
percent growth) worth $3.151 million (25.97 percent reduction), and
2,968 tons of dairy products (up 68.42 percent). - $15.5 million
(up 49.61 percent); 91,519 tons of vegetables and fruits (up 29.13
percent). - $63.1 million (increased 34.58 percent); 1,762 tons of
tea (down 8.25 percent). - $8.8 million (down 13.6 percent).
Azerbaijan also imported more than 160,178 tons of wheat, corn, and
rice, totaling $49.4 million.
Imports of vegetable fats and oils totaled 32,903 tons, worth more
than $37.7 million.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover from January
through February 2024 increased by 0.77 percent, or $55.1 million,
compared to the same period in 2023, from $7.1 billion to $7.2
billion.
Exports accounted for $4.7 billion in the structure of foreign
trade turnover, up $259.5 million, or 5.74 percent, from the same
period last year. The share of exports in the foreign trade
turnover amounted to 66.14 percent, up from 63.03 percent a year
earlier.
Azerbaijan's imports in the reporting period decreased year-on-year by $204.3 million, or 7.71 percent, from $2.6 billion to about $2.4 billion. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 33.86 percent, up from 36.97 percent a year earlier.
Consequently, the foreign trade balance, while remaining positive during the period under review, grew year-on-year by over $463.8 million, or 24.81 percent, to $2.3 billion from $1.8 billion in the reporting period of 2023.
