Volumes of cargo transportation significantly decreased in Georgia

Georgian vehicles have transported 19.4 million tons in the first six months compared to 22.5 million tons in the first half of 2008, the Georgian government said.

The Georgian government said 7.7 million tons were transported by railway in the first six months compared to 10.9 million tons in 2008.

About 4.5 million tons of cargo of the total volume transported by railway fall on bulked cargo accounted for (in the first half of 2008 - 5.1 million tons).

About 11.7 million tons were transported by cars compared to 11.6 million tons in 2008.

The number of passengers transported by railway hits 1.4 million people in the first half of 2009 compared to 1.7 million in 2008. About 128.7 million people were transported by cars compared to 125.3 million in the first half of 2008. About 315,000 people were transported by air compared to 383,000 in 2008.
