CJSC Production Union Azerbaijani salt established by Azersun Holding and the Azerbaijani Investment Company (AIC), launched a salt production and its distribution in the domestic consumer market, Azersun Holding Public Relations and Social Projects Department Head Afig Safarov said.
"The work on distribution of the salt under the Azerduz brand is underway in the country's all shopping centers," Safarov said.
He said shortly after the company will meet domestic demand (which will take several weeks), the plant will begin exporting its goods to the CIS markets at the first stage and then in other countries in the future.
"The salt production plant has no analogue in the other Caucasus countries. The plant's products are competitive, as the plant produces salt using modern technology. Given all these variables, the plant's products can reach all the most advanced markets of the world," Safarov said.
Official opening of the plant, in whose activities will be invested in general, 20 million manat, will be held in the coming days, Safarov added.
The company's daily capacity is 100 tons, but soon that figure will be increased to 300 tons, he said.
Regarding the quality of the produced salt, Safarov said low-quality production of salt is impossible with the use of modern technology. Salt is iodized to 99 percent, which is done to care for the health of the population.
More than 50 percent of salt sold in the local market is non-iodized salt and only Azerduz salt meets all quality standards, NGO Azerbaijani Consumers Union Head Eyyub Huseynov said at the news conference.
So far, 16 million manat was invested in the construction of the plant and another four million will be invested soon. About 25 percent of the total investments fell to the AIC and the remaining funds -Asersun Holding.
