As of late November 2017, the number of employees in the banking sector of Azerbaijan amounted to 16,630 people, according to Azerbaijan’s Financial Market Supervisory Authority.
The number of employees in the banking sector increased by 0.97 percent during the month. Thus, as of late October 16,470 people worked in the banking sector of Azerbaijan, and in early 2017 - about 16,950 people.
During the reporting period, 31 banks operated in the country, including two state-owned banks. Out of the total number of banks, 16 banks have foreign capital. In eight of them, the share of foreign stakeholders exceeds 50 percent of the bank’s authorized capital. There are two branches of foreign banks (Bank Melli Iran and the National Bank of Pakistan) operating in Azerbaijan.
As of late November 2017, there were 547 branches and 142 departments of banks operating in Azerbaijan. As of late November 2016, the figure was 568 branches and 129 departments of 32 banks operating in the country.
