Iran aims to reduce agricultural waste

TEHRAN, Iran, Jan.22

Trend:

Reducing agricultural waste in Iran is very important for increasing food safety, said acting Minister of Agriculture.

"Considering the volume of agricultural waste, the issue should be a priority for the Agriculture Ministry," Abbas Keshavarz said, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"While the situation for businessmen is more difficult, I believe that the economic challenges are not too formidable. Perhaps, one of them is restriction on transferring agricultural knowledge," Keshavarz noted.

"Low diversity of pesticides may cause damages to agriculture sector, so it is expected that necessary appropriate measures will be taken in the current situation," the acting minister added.

"There should be a reform in production of pesticides, and the reform should take into account biological and eco-friendly factors," Keshavarz said.

"Despite foreign currency fluctuation, the official foreign currency rate assigned for the import of pesticides has not changed and therefore, the prices have not increased," he said.
