The Chairman of Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation, known as IMIDRO announced the establishment of the Steel Industry Research and Technology Fund by the end of the current Iranian year (end on March 21, 2021).

"Considering the important role of the mining industry to limit dependence on oil, it is necessary to provide a series of requirements and infrastructure, one of which is the localization of the industry,” the head of IMIDRO Khodadad Qaribpour said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

"In this regard, we have developed 12 macro indicators for localization, which will be the criterion for evaluating the performance of localization and domestic construction programs,” he said.

He went on to say that “These indicators are a guideline for mineral companies. Among these indicators, foreign exchange savings, cost reduction, job creation, acceleration of the needs process, and localized construction plans can be addressed.”

“These indicators are operational and have a real measurement capability. Utilizing the potential of domestic companies and manufacturers, upgrading engineering capacity of the country, are the main axis of localization policies of Imidro,” he added.

Referring to the formation of a research and technology fund for the steel industry, he says that such a fund is being established as an important step to support domestic producers and reduce their risks.
