Iran's gas production and export grows in past decade

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.18

Iran's gas production has increased from 2010 to 2019, Trend reports via the Annual Statistical Bulletin of 2020 issued by the Gas Exporting Countries Forum(GECF).

The report also said the volume of gas imports for Iran have decreased, while the country increased its gas exports to such countries as Iraq, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Turkey and Oman.

The natural gas annual gross production was 222.64 billion cubic meters in 2010, and reached 322.50 billion cubic meters in 2019.

Iran's total natural gas exports stood at 8.49 billion cubic meters via pipeline in 2010 and it reached 12.35 billion cubic meters in 2019. The total imports via pipelines stood at 7.52 billion cubic meters in 2010 and dropped to 1.27 billion cubic meters in 2019.

Iran's natural gas export pipelines have transported 14.0 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Turkey since 2002 (from Tabriz to Ankara).

The report also said Iran has started to swap some 10 billion cubic meters natural gas with Azerbaijan via Jolfa – Nakhchivan pipeline in 2005.

GECF said Iran has been importing 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year from Turkmenistan via Daulatabad- Khangiran pipeline since 2007.

Meanwhile, Iran transported gas via its pipelines in Asaluye to Iraq, Pakistan and Oman.

Iran's proven gas reserves in 2010 stood at 33.620 billion cubic meters(Bcm), growing to 33.988 billion cubic meters in 2019.

Gas consumption at Iran's refineries stood at 8.28 billion cubic meters in 2010, reducing to 5.95 billion cubic meters in 2019.

The country's power sector consumed 46.28 billion cubic meters of gas in 2010 to generate power, while the consumption increased in 2019 to 68.19 billion cubic meters. Iran's petrochemical sector consumed 4.25 billion cubic meters in 2010 as feedstock, while the figure reached 5.17 billion cubic meters in 2019.

Gas Exporting Countries Forum is an intergovernmental organization of 11 of the world's leading natural gas producers made up of Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.
