Toyota Camry sales frenzy

(autoinsidernews) - While it may be hard to believe, Toyotas redesigned 2007 Camry is one of the hottest cars in America. Despite being Americas best-selling car every year but one since 1997, the sedan gained momentum after the redesign. Many dealers have a 10-day supply of the 2007 Camry. The Georgetown, Ky., plant is running overtime and weekend shifts to try to keep up with demand. Executives are begging for more exports from Japan. The car has no incentives, reports Trend.

If Toyotas manufacturing plants can keep up with demand, the Camry could be the first car to sell 450,000 units since the Chevrolet Impala in 1978.

While sales are only up 3.1 percent from the March-July period of last year, dealers say they could sell many more if stock were available. If you consider that midsized cars are down 0.4 percent in the March-July period, the increase looks a little better.
