CERA Chairman: Natural gas should uphold position on world arena

Natural gas should uphold its position in the global energy arena, Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) Chairman Daniel Yergin says.

"Natural gas is economically clean energy source," Yergin said at an international economic forum in St. Petersburg held June 18 in the live transmission of the "Russia 24" television channel.

According to him, the natural gas industry in the future will flourish, despite the fact that today the gas a little bit lost its position in the global energy arena.

Yergin said that there is a potential for the development of shale gas production in Europe. Although it differs from the potential in the U.S., which have a large number of sources of shale gas. However, according to Yergin shale can not replace natural gas.

However, if Europe with shale gas can compensate the fall in gas production in the North Sea, then it will become less dependent on pipeline gas, Yergin believes.
