The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has established a special commission to investigate the causes of an explosion in the Kalmaz underground gas storage facility on May 1, the company reported. The incident killed one worker.
The company reported that the explosion occurred while replacing the separator at the gas reservoir. The accident killed the brigadier of the fifth construction and installation management of the Neftegazstroy trust, Arif Bashirov. Fitter Vagif Shafiev got injured.
A source in the company told Trend that gas pumping and extraction is not performed at the Kalmaz gas storage now. Preparations are underway to start the process of gas pumping.
