A branch of the Tyub-Karagan Operating Company B.V. in Aktau, which is the operator of the Tub-Karagan project, announced the completion of drilling on Exploration Well No. 2 from a planned depth of 2,150 meters.
"Drilling began on March 31. A depth of 2,150 meters has been achieved," the company said.
According to a press release, the data received during drilling are being analyzed.
"A decision on the project's further implementation will be made as a result of the analysis," the press release stated.
The Tyub-Karagan area is located in the central part of the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, in 40 km from the Bautini Port. The contract area hits 1,372 square km. The sea depth in the work area is about 8 meters.
The project to develop the contract area Tyub-Karagan is implemented in accordance with a PSA signed on Dec. 29, 2003 between the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry of Kazakhstan and JSC National Company KazMunaiGas on the site Tyub-Karagan.
At present, the project's shareholders are: JSC Offshore KazMunaiTeniz - 50 percent and LUKOIL Overseas Shelf B.V. - 50 percent.
