Turkey's needs for electricity will grow in 2023 up to 450 billion kilowatt hours compared to 229 billion kilowatts hours in the current year, the Anadolu agency quotes Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz as saying on Tuesday.
"Such a sharp increase in electricity needs requires investments worth $100 billion in this sector," Yildiz said.
He also said that Turkey's need for electricity in June 2012 increased by 11 per cent compared to June 2011.
According to the Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS), electricity generation in Turkey in the first quarter of 2012 increased by 10.1 per cent, compared to the same month in 2011 and amounted to 62.9 billion kilowatt hours. During this period, 1.191 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were imported.
